Do I have to have a referral to become a patient?

If you would like to see one of our Surgeons or Specialists, you will need a referral from your GP or Specialist. A GP referral is valid for 12 months from the date first seen unless marked as indefinite and a specialist referral is valid for 3 months from the date first seen.

Will there be a fee payable if I have surgery?

If you are required to have surgery, you will be provided with an Estimate of Fees which will clearly outline if there will be an out-of-pocket fee payable and when that would need to be paid by. Hospital excess fees and anesthetist fees will be confirmed by individual services and not from the clinic. For further information please click on our informed financial consent page or phone our practice.

How long until I can drive after surgery?

Depending on what kind of surgery you undergo will vary on the time that you will be able to drive again. This will be discussed at the time of booking your surgery and at your first post-operative appointment.

What to expect on your first visit?

From the minute you walk into our practice you can expect to be treated with warmth and compassion. Our friendly administrative assistants will ensure your details are correct and we have everything our surgeons require to ensure your consultation runs smoothly. At the time of your consultation, the surgeon will discuss with you your options, what is involved and what you can expect from a medical perspective. You may choose to proceed at that time or alternatively go away and consider the information you have been given.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Prior to your initial consultation you will need to obtain a referral letter from your GP or other treating specialist. Other things to consider bringing are your medication list and any relevant medical history and/or scans and results, your Medicare card and if applicable your private health insurance details and/or DVA, Work cover or TAC details.

I am booked for surgery; how do I know who will be anesthetist?

Making sure you are as comfortable as possible before, during and after your procedure is given the highest priority at PMC Surgical. For that reason, we only work with anesthetists that are as committed as we are to delivering safe, comfortable and predictable surgical care. Our anesthetists are proficient at using the latest regional anesthetic techniques which means your body is placed under the least amount of stress possible during the procedure, you wake up as comfortable as possible (in the case of general anesthetics) and are back on your feet as soon as possible. Please contact our practice to find out your anesthetist.
